GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Laboratory Technologist General Supervisor on duty, the Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant obtains specimens for analysis with the highest quality and most efficient service possible through the proper use of facilities, supplies, equipment and attendant resources. Draws blood from patients or donors in hospital for analysis or other medical purposes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Must have full dexterity of fingers and hands. Vision must be 20/20 or corrected to 20/20. Position requires standing, sitting, bending at waist, communication skills on the telephone and in person.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs all assigned routine and complex laboratory analysis correctly as stated in the procedure manual and with absolute integrity; responsible for the recognition and correction of errors.
2. Conducts Quality Control procedures for analytical test and instrumentation; evaluates results and implements corrective action when indicated.
3. Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, standardization and troubleshooting with appropriate documentation.
4. Verifies and reports patient results in a timely manner either verbally, written or through the use of the computer system.
5. Seeks supervisory consultation when indicated concerning unusual results, lab policy or procedural questions or instrument problems.
6. Guarantees the confidentiality of patient identity and data at all times.
7. Teaches and trains new employees.
8. Participates in continuing education to maintain proficiency in procedures, techniques and instrumentation; participates in research and the development of new procedures.
9. Interacts with hospital personnel, peers, patients, clients, visitors and supervisory personnel in a productive and professional manner.
10. Understands and adheres to company policies as outlined in the Employee Policy Manual.
11. Performs related work as assigned, i.e., Phlebotomy and clerical duties.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Venipuncture and Phlebotomy skills.
2. Organize and prioritize the workflow (multitasking).
3. Good communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Licensed in the State of Nevada as a Laboratory Assistant
